Acerca de La Fundación Lucy

Visión:

Empoderamiento de las personas con discapacidad.

Misión:

La Fundación Lucy se compromete a capacitar a las personas con discapacidad mediante la colaboración con las comunidades para promover la educación y el empleo a través del comercio rentable y ético.

Historia:

Puede sonar algo raro que le haya puesto a una empresa social el nombre de mi pierna ortopédica, pero para mis amigos y yo tiene mucho sentido. Co-fundadora Robbie Francisco nació con una discapacidad física. Aprendió a caminar con una pierna artificial la cual, se le conoce como “Lucy Pierna ‘.

Robbie es la primera en admitir que creció en un país de privilegio y oportunidad. Pero las cosas podrían haber resultado muy diferentes. Esto es un pensamiento que le llego después de regresar de trabajar como monitor de los derechos de los discapacitados en “uno de los lugares más oscuros de la tierra”. En las palabras de la cantante neocelandesa Brooke Fraser:

“Ahora que he visto, yo soy responsable.”

Después de haber compartido estas experiencias con Ben, Simone y Jess, decidimos que no había manera de que pudieran continuar con el statu quo. Documentar el problema no era suficiente, querían formar parte de la solución. Así fue que se formó La Fundación Lucy… Un grupo de jóvenes comprometidos con el desarrollo de modelos de integración, ética y desarrollo de negocios con un enfoque de empleo significativo para las personas con discapacidad.

Our very own Dr. Robbie Francis is currently in Colombia with the Polus delegation to talk with land mine survivors about what they need to enable them to lead their best lives. She is also talking to coffee producers about disability inclusion and Universal Design in their washing stations and cupping labs.
